Sicily Trip 2018 2

We began with a trip up Mount Etna – enduring temperatures of around 0 degrees at the top, which was somewhat unexpected! We saw solidified lava flows which were only a year old, and walked around a crater formed as recently as 2002.

We headed to the Alcantara limestone gorge the next day, in very wet conditions, and then explored the ancient theatre at Taormina, again doing our best to avoid the rain.

Thankfully the weather dried up the next day for our trip to Piazza Armerina – home to some of the best-preserved Roman mosaics in the world. We then moved to our new base on the South coast and headed to the Valley of the Temples and the Scala dei Turchi – incredible bright white stepped cliffs, formed naturally from limestone.
