Our splendid new Prep School Art Department houses excellent facilities in which children can acquire the necessary skills required for Senior College within a relaxed and stimulating environment.
Our spacious Art room allows the opportunity for children to explore large scale, ambitious projects, utilise ICT facilities and learn such specialised skills as printmaking using our fine etching press.
Our curriculum is harnessed to pupils’ interests and enthusiasms. There is an emphasis on one-to-one tuition, independent learning and inspired creativity. The pupils are introduced to a wide range of materials and techniques addressing all aspects of artistic competence.
Art clubs allow the especially gifted to become more involved and there is an equal emphasis on Art History for those children whose interests are more academic than practical. Art History discussions supplemented by audio-visual material develop the pupil’s critical powers of analysing both their own work and that of the great Masters.
Exhibitions of pupils' work
Prep School Art exhibitions encourage higher standards and promote pride in their hard won efforts. The pupils’ learning is enriched further when they view exhibitions from invited artists, artists in residence and Senior School pupils in our Foyer Gallery in Senior College.
