Geoffrey Stanford

Headmaster - Fettes College

Following a career spanning the army, strategy consulting and investment banking, I moved into teaching because I most enjoyed being able to mentor people and encourage their development. The opportunity to inspire and motivate is incredibly rewarding and I believe in being both visible and accessible to pupils and staff alike.

After starting my teaching career at Millfield School I became a Boarding Housemaster and Head of Department at Pangbourne College. Prior to moving to Fettes I was the Deputy Head responsible for running the co-curricular programme at Sevenoaks School. Having taught in the A level and the IB systems both separately and concurrently, I understand the benefits to pupils of each. I have also learnt much from being a governor for a leading independent prep school and an outstanding state secondary school.

I hold an MA in Classics from Oxford University but have taught Economics and Business for the majority of my teaching career, following an MBA from INSEAD in France.

I love spending time in mountains with my family and dogs, whether walking, climbing or skiing. I also enjoy playing the French Horn so from time to time I may be seen at the back of an orchestra.
