I have a particular interest in the early modern period, notably sixteenth century France. On a past holiday to the Loire Valley, I was tipped off by a fellow historian about a system of caves near the village of Deneze-sous-Doue where local inhabitants had carved 100 figures, representing some key players from the French court at the beginning of the Wars of Religion. Like so many other experiences it brought the history of the classroom and the textbook to life, and I felt privileged to have seen these sculptures.

Asides from teaching History, my main ambition is to see a Capercaillie in its natural habitat.
