Amanda Mair

Head of History, 2nd Form Tutor

I enjoyed being a pupil at Fettes so much that in 2000 I came back as a teacher! Initially as an S Form tutor, then as Head of Girls' Games and now as Head of History. Before teaching at Fettes I taught in Brixton, London for four years and then at Pembroke House Prep School, Kenya.

What I love about Fettes is the children; they are great fun to teach and always enthusiastic. They throw themselves into so many different activities and will give everything a go. I do enjoy a school trip and in the past I have led a number of ski trips as well as taking pupils on History trips to York and London. I have also enjoyed a number of trips with the College pupils.

Although life at Fettes can be very busy, I was lucky enough to be a member of The Children’s Panel for five years which was challenging but very rewarding, I hope to go back to it in a few years’ time. I am married to Iain and have three children; Archie who was born in 2009 and the twins Jessica and Harry who were born in 2012. I enjoyed traveling before the children came along and I hope to see a bit more of the world when the children are older; I am particularly looking forward to introducing them all to skiing.
