House and Years at Fettes:
Glencorse 1962-1966

Qualifications & Career:
Did an HND at Newcastle Polytechnic, worked three years at CRAC in Cambridge publishing careers guidance titles, moved to Sydney Australia and set up an audio publishing company. This developed into a business specialising in the management of international conferences and events.

I sold my interest in this a few years ago and now do a combination of charity work and professional work. My main activity is with Business Events Sydney where I manage the Ambassador Program and assist in winning international business events for Sydney.

What is your most cherished memory from your time at Fettes?
Playing a range of sports including squash and fives! Is fives still played?

What event or personality left a lasting impression on you?
Most vividly recalled personalities were Reverend Buchanan, a gentle, caring man and Mr Cole-Hamilton who was head of Kimmerghame and taught German. We learned songs in German which I recite to this day!

Were you a conscientious student?
Yes, but the teaching in those days relied a lot on rote learning of facts....no real emphasis on developing the thinking skills necessary for life.

Outside the classroom, how did you spend your free time at Fettes?
Sport, some drama, cadets, reading.
