Arniston 1968-1973

Qualifications & Career:
Went straight from school into the insurance broking business with a Company by the name of Glanvill Enthoven. Spent five years with the same group working in Lagos Nigeria and then four and a half years in Sydney, NSW. Returned and joined a specialist insurance broker called Jenner Fenton Slade, who specialised in Oil and Gas Insurance. Set up a new Energy Division for the insurance broking subsidiary of HSBC and left ten years ago to work on my own as an independent intermediary for emerging markets. Still going!

Also, last year, I was Captain of Denham Golf Club.

What is your most cherished memory from your time at Fettes?
My most cherished memory was going off for golf matches with Ian Sutcliffe.

And your least?
Evening prayers.

What event or personality left a lasting impression on you?
Probably the Centenary and Bob Roberts and Chas Whittle.

Were you a conscientious student?
No not really.

Outside the classroom, how did you spend your free time at Fettes?
Sport especially Golf and Rugby and weekend soccer. Going up town to rock concerts. Mixing with really nice guys.
