Iain McGlashan

House and Years at Fettes:
Schoolhouse/College West 1945-1950

Qualifications & Career:
MA (just) Cantab (no doubt). Marketing in Unilever mostly, then my own small engineering business (duly sold alright), working for FAO and WHO (not "the Doctor"), raising sponsorship for Scottish Opera (and singing in the chorus), finally Bursar at Kelvinside Academy.

What is your most cherished memory from your time at Fettes?
Music of all sorts on all kinds of instruments in the company of great lifetime friends.

And your least?
Without a moment's hesitation, obligatory rugby in the rain, followed by double maths.

What event or personality left a lasting impression on you?
Ian Mackenzie. A stretching of the imagination and a lasting sense of fair play, even if that sounds impossibly wimpish.

Were you a conscientious student?
Nope. But I managed to get through the exams, interviews and life relatively unscathed.

Outside the classroom, how did you spend your free time at Fettes?
Back to music again, avoiding rugby by the most devious routes, enjoying uproarious times in the study.
