What is your most cherished memory from your time at Fettes?
A rugby match. 1st XV against Merchiston, 1995/6 season. We were on a run of 8 games without loss but that was the big one as we hadn't beaten them for years. The game was almost called off as Big Side was frozen but we played up on Inverleith. Can't remember the score but we won after a very hard fought match where we gave everything we had. It was a great team to play in, plenty of quality players and we had an attractive style. Most importantly, we were all great friends.

And your least?
3rd Form Latin. I still shudder when I think of it.

If relevant, what did being a scholar at Fettes mean to you?
Probably the best thing that ever happened to me. Gave me the opportunity to study at a wonderful school I wouldn't otherwise of had. I have very fond memories, it was a great education and I made fantastic friends.

What event or personality left a lasting impression on you?
The English faculty was exceptional while I was at Fettes: Cheetam, Reeves, Harrison, Butler. Great teachers with a real love of their subject and their pupils.

Were you a conscientious student?
I hope so.

Outside the classroom, how did you spend your free time at Fettes?
Music, drama, sport and socialising. And staying out of trouble ;-)
