David Davidson

House and Years at Fettes:
Arniston 1975 - 1980

Qualifications and career:
BSc Land Economics, MRICS. Chartered Surveyor and Equity Partner in Cushman & Wakefield's European Partnership. Managing Director of Scottish business with offices in Edinburgh (at Hanover Street) and Glasgow (West George Street).

What is your most cherished memory from your time at Fettes?
The annual steeplechase and running through the pond!

And your least?
Opening my Higher Exam results.

What event or personality left a lasting impression on you?
Chris Carruthers - at Arniston we were underdogs at everything so when we won the mile relay I "over celebrated" by raising my hands crossing the finishing line. Mr Carruthers (who wasn't even my House Master) strongly disapproved and let me know. It taught me that you have to be a good winner as well as a good loser. Plenty of other characters during my time at school, but unfortunately not as many around now in business

Were you a conscientious student?
I thought so at the time, but when I ended up at Glasgow Tech, my parents questioned their investment in my boarding school education.

Outside the classroom, how did you spend your free time at Fettes?
I took advantage of everything I could, but particularly sport - inter school or inter house - there was always something to compete in.
