30 years experience in engineering, procurement and construction of power and process facilities – world wide
Currently the Senior Executive of a Power and process development company performing sustainable energy and fuel projects in Hawaii, California and the Pacific Rim

What is your most cherished memory from your time at Fettes?
HRH Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother – visit 1970 – to celebrate the Centennial – as a member of the Pipe Band we were part of the Royal Guard and played for Her Majesty

And your least?
Freezing on the Belows fields in February

If relevant, what did being a scholar at Fettes mean to you?
It set me up to succeed in business and the world environment

What event or personality left a lasting impression on you?
“Carry On” – on the War Memorial – and David Pighills – I never realized how much I appreciated him until later – also George Preston – because he too is a Civil Engineer

Were you a conscientious student?
A, B, B at A levels in Chemistry Physics and Mathematics – I would say that’s conscientious – however it could have been better!

Outside the classroom, how did you spend your free time at Fettes?
I played first eleven cricket (1/3 matches the rest as Captain of seconds)– and first 15 Rugby (played for the second 15 in the latter part of the season after a concussion) – and was a member of the pipe band – my favourite past-time was playing the 9 hole golf course after Prep in the evenings
