Tara McDonald

Head of History

I have been employed at Fettes since 2010, originally as a teacher of History and Politics and laterally as Department Head of History. I began my undergraduate studies at the University of Salford, gaining a 2:1 in History and Politics. Having not had quite enough of studying I moved North and achieved my Masters degree at Edinburgh University in 2000 before starting a PGCE at the University of Glasgow the following year.

Previously I have taught at Hutchison’s Grammar in Glasgow and I was Head of Department at the Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I began my career (too many years ago to mention now) at Lomond School in Helensburgh at which I was a boarding tutor for three years. This experience engendered in me a love of boarding and I was delighted to return to the boarding sector with my move here. I have been a visiting tutor in Arniston house since arriving and am most definitely a loyal puffin!

The pace of life at Fettes can be challenging but it is equally, if not more so, rewarding. The pupils and staff are fantastic and there is a warm atmosphere which makes teaching here such a pleasure.
