Josephine Berganza

Head of Modern Languages

My degree in languages and literature is from the Université de Grenoble and I did a one-year scholarship exchange with University of California Berkeley focusing on Hispanic literature before returning to do my PGCE in England.

Having learnt one language through immersion and one through the classroom, I aim to bring the best elements of both approaches to pupils. I am keen to create opportunities in languages for all students – from the scientific end of the spectrum with linguistics and decoding, to in-depth literature study and translation.

I previously worked as Head of Spanish and Resident Tutor at Sherborne School, and I spent my first two years at Fettes as Assistant Housemistress in Craigleith. I am delighted to tutor in Glencorse and to help with the dance programme at Fettes. I continue to do a small amount of translation work in the holidays.
