Duncan Harrison

Head of Rugby

I arrived in Edinburgh from South Africa on a cold and wet November day in 1998 to play rugby and have never looked back! I have been fortunate to have played and coached with so many fantastically passionate and talented people in so many places around the world including Edinburgh, Hong Kong, California and Sydney – this is the beauty of Sport!

Being brought up in South Africa with two older brothers, sport, and particularly rugby, has played a big part in my life ever since I can remember. In 2003 after finishing my Sports Science degree I took on the role of Head of Rugby at Fettes. My coaching philosophy is firmly based around getting the best out of every player as well as developing a lifelong love of this special game. Winning the Schools’ Cup final in 2008/09 as a coach and winning the BT Shield Final as a player, both at Murrayfield, are certainly personal highlights.

I currently hold a UKCC level III qualification, UKCC and IRB Coach Educator award and am working towards a UKCC level IV. I still play the occasional game of rugby (preferably somewhere warm), cricket and golf, and one day I hope to run an ultra-marathon.

I am married to my wife Lyndsay and have two children Tess and Rory.
