Bruce Russell

Head of Cricket

I was educated at the High School of Stirling and, following my interest in sport of all varieties, at Newcastle Polytechnic where I completed a degree in Sport Studies. Various sports coaching roles ensued, including some time as a cricket professional in Scotland and New Zealand. During this period I was proud to captain the Scotland cricket team for a period.

Starting my time at Fettes as a part-time squash and cricket coach, I have also enjoyed developing my hockey teaching, and have been a full-time member of staff teaching PE and coaching games across the Prep School and Senior College since 1998. After a spell in charge of Boys Games in the Prep School, I have now moved to the College, where I am Head of Cricket, and also run the squash and badminton programmes, and have just completed my 10th season in charge of the Girls 1st XI Hockey team.

I very much enjoy working with boys and girls right through the age spectrum, attempting to foster and develop their interest and keenness for sport, and seeing them develop in all aspects as they pass through our school.
