Andrew Speedy

Head of English

I have been Head of English at Fettes College since joining the school in 2007. I am a graduate of Durham University and came up to Edinburgh after ten years teaching south of the border. Edinburgh is a truly amazing city – the first UNESCO World City of Literature – and a wonderful environment in which to live and work.

Fettesians are an enthusiastic and committed bunch and the English curriculum at Fettes (IB, A Level and GCSE) is varied, challenging and tremendous fun.

Beyond the classroom, I have relished the chance to take pupils further afield on study trips to Stratford-upon-Avon, London’s South Bank, the Lake District and Haworth. I also enjoy coaching rugby and cricket at U15 level. In my spare time, I enjoy painting, photography and sports of all kinds. I am married to Emma: we have two young children, Tom and Rosie.
