Music Scholars are a key part of the musical life of Fettes: they form the basis of most groups and are also invited to participate in the planning of Music Society events.
They need to be highly motivated, committed to both their instruments and ensemble music-making, and they need to be prepared to make a major contribution to music throughout their time at the school.
In return, they receive tailored guidance from the Music Department to monitor progress and assist with their musical development, and a wealth of advice and support from their music tutor.
In recent years one of our Scholars was awarded a Gold Bursary by the Associated Board for gaining the highest marks in the UK for his Grade 8 violin examination, and we have also had similar success in singing and piano. The James Waterhouse piano competition was won by Fettes Music Scholars in 2013 and 2014 and two current scholars have won places as Samling scholars.
