Choral Music

For Singers, we have a thriving Chapel Choir and Concert Choir as well as a whole-school musical biennially.

The Chapel Choir are an elite group of singers with many ex-choristers and music scholars as members. The Chapel Choir enjoys an enviable reputation internationally and has, by invitation, recently sung Choral Evensong in Durham Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral, London. They are regularly broadcast on national radio and are currently preparing for the 2016 Choir Tour to Hong Kong. With such a strong choral tradition, we are naturally well-placed for preparing pupils for Oxbridge Choral and Organ Scholarships.

We also have our ever-popular Concert Choir, a large mixed choir of around 120 voices made up of pupils aged 13-18, and staff. Performances take place twice a year in church or cathedral venues across Edinburgh with complex works such as Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor KV 427, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Parry’s Hear my Words, Ye People having been performed recently.

The biennial school musical involves a huge cast of performers including both singers and instrumentalists - a wonderful opportunity to embrace a different genre of music. This year’s show was Jesus Christ Superstar.
