Debating and public speaking

There is a great deal more to English at Fettes than simply preparing for exams. Debating and public speaking are thriving throughout the school.

Creativity is key

We hold creative writing classes and regular competitions. There is also a lively programme of author visits (bringing in writers like Kathleen Jamie, Keith Gray, William Sutcliffe and Janice Galloway to Fettes). We are also proud that one of our Upper Sixth pupils was a runner-up in the prestigious HMC poetry prize in 2013.

Going beyond the classroom

We take full advantage of the wonderful resources on our doorstep in Edinburgh, as well as venturing further afield to places like Stratford, London and the Lake District.
